The Pitcairn Trials

4.8/5

Critic Rating

Halfway between South America and New Zealand is a small piece of volcanic, British territory; Pitcairn. It has one shop open for a few hours a day, it’s accessible only by boat, it was born out of Naval mutiny in the 18th Century, it’s home to 37 British subjects...and an almighty scandal. If you're interested in sponsorship and advertising in The Pitcairn Trials, then we'd love to hear from you. Fiona Sturges • Financial Times Feb 3, 2025

"Much of this makes for tough listening but, as the legal process gathers speed, it’s also gripping and illuminating. Along with the story of a knotty police investigation, The Pitcairn Trials is also a compelling portrait of a uniquely strange society created in a uniquely strange land. Such details add to a tale steeped in history and the dark side of human nature. "

"This is obviously very grim stuff. In other hands it would make me queasy. But Jones handles it with admirable sensitivity. And by weaving in the strange history of Pitcairn this podcast succeeds as a portrait of one of the most unusual communities in the world rather than another lurid opportunity to gawk at human misery. It is the best true crime series I’ve heard in a long time — I was gripped."
