Hi, I’m Dax Shepard, and I love talking to people. I am endlessly fascinated by the messiness of being human, and I find people who are vulnerable and honest about their struggles and shortcomings to be incredibly sexy. I invite you to join me as I explore other people’s stories. We will celebrate, above all, the challenges and setbacks that ultimately lead to growth and betterment. What qualifies me for such an endeavor? More than a decade of sobriety, a degree in Anthropology and four years of improv training. I will attempt to discover human “truths” without any laboratory work, clinical trials or data collection. I will be, in the great tradition of 16th-century scientists, an Armchair Expert. "Star power is what matters on this show...but it’s in his role as interviewer that he’s found his niche. Armchair Expert is an interesting case study in the trajectory of Spotify shows."

"...(Dax)he seems comfortable exploring the more serious subject matters and doesn’t turn to humour to lighten the mood or make himself more comfortable-- a habit a lot of comedians tend to fall back on."

Kevin Heffernan • Rise Collaborative Feb 27, 2020

"...I can’t get it out of my rotation. A show like this, where Shepard pushes guests to tell deeper stories about their background, reminds the listener that so many actors grew up in the midwest under the same circumstances as you and I and have only know this new successful life for a couple years. That new life often has guests admitting they don’t mind the money, but are uncomfortable with everything else about celebrity."

"Shepard is a little less obsessed with the topic than his peers, opting for more of a Marc Maron-style take-me-through-your-life interview with his celebrity guests. Shepard’s warmth and basic ability to riff makes his show significantly looser...But the man can make conversation, so well in fact that he inspired an army of copycat first mics."

"A mix of in-depth interviews and freewheeling banter, “Armchair Expert” has clear antecedents in “WTF With Marc Maron” and “The Howard Stern Show,” but Shepard’s distinctive point of view and unfiltered lens on family life add up to something wholly unique."

"Another episode I listened to on my way from SF to LA. I would say this was a pretty standard Bill Gates casual conversation chat. Dax gushes over Bill and information that isn't new in my world. If you are new to Bill Gates, then this may be a good starter if you can get past Dax fanboying. "

"Listened to this on my drive down from SF to LA. A great discussion on Dax's insecurities and overcoming the the jokes of Hollywoods expense. Seth's Rhode Island days was refreshing and his privilege is understood. Such a clear conversation with a great talent that tells me I can do more even if it doesn't get recognition. Just do it. "
