Critic Rating
Welcome to one of the internet’s weirdest obsessions. Back in December of 2020, a nurse named Tiffany Dover fainted on camera while she was talking to reporters after getting her first COVID shot. She got right back up and gave another interview, but it was too late. A conspiracy theory was already racing around the world: Dover had died. She’d been replaced by a body double. "The conceit of Tiffany Dover Is Dead* is that its host, the euphoniously named Brandy Zadrozny, sets out to beat conspiracy theorists at their own game. From the perspective of Dover — the recipient of inquisitive visits and letters — this must be incredibly annoying. From the perspective of the listener it’s an intriguing reconstruction of the conspiracist mindset and an effective dramatic device."

"It’s early days for the series but the approach feels odd. Zadrozny quickly gleans from Dover’s colleagues that she doesn’t want to be contacted — one hospital employee tells her how Dover and her family had been harassed online and in person. Yet here Zadrozny is, lurking outside her place of work and her home, and using her name in the title of her podcast in the glibbest possible fashion. Dover’s story is compelling, but there are ways of telling it without intruding on the life of a woman who clearly wishes to stay out of sight."

"Zadrozny dives deep with her team into the guts and mechanics of one prominent theory that took flight during the earliest days of the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine in the United States. It’s a doozy."
