Radioman

4.7/5

Critic Rating

When a series of gruesome murders leaves a community in despair, a former local DJ decides to start a podcast and do something about it. But as his following grows, long-buried secrets from the past resurface revealing not everyone is who they truly seem.... Radioman explores themes of grief, trauma, deceit and family within a country at war with itself, questioning how much the past impacts the present and how betrayal, in its most extreme form, can rip a family to pieces. As one man journeys to catch a killer, will he survive the pressures to succeed or ultimately be consumed by his own downfall? Starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Game of Thrones), David Morrissey (The Walking Dead), Divian Ladwa (Ant-Man), and Cathy Tyson (Mona Lisa). With audio production, sound design & original music by Benbrick (Have You Heard George’s Podcast?). A Vespucci and Big Light Entertainment production for Audible Originals.

Fiona Sturges • Financial Times May 22, 2022

"Radioman sails dangerously close to parody...the series is sharp on the undercurrent of racism in a depressed town where residents are quick to point the finger...the tension builds up nicely. And, as expected, the sound is superb — multi-layered and immersive without being intrusive (this is a series best heard on headphones). The music, which laps artfully around the dialogue, is original and gorgeous."

"Not quite so gentle, but just as carefully soundscaped...The intense, layered soundscaping – by production supremo Benbrick, using more than 4,000 audio tracks – is dazzling, driving the plot forward. The reveal, again based on the actual case, is unexpected and, for me, a little unsatisfying, but this is a strikingly ambitious drama that rewards immersion."
