"I might have preferred a more straightforward Band of Brothers-style telling to the writer Iris Yamashita’s speculative time-travel treatment, in which the modern-day Californian Ken Morioka (Akie Kotabe) is transferred into the wartime body of his grandfather. But although hammy (or, when you throw in rationing, spammy?) this is also a valuable education."
