"What struck me, in particular, was how many of the close encounters described took place when people were travelling. The notion that our society is truly surreal appears increasingly optimistic as the episodes go on. Surrealism, as we learn, grew out of dadaism, a movement characterised by a nihilistic approach to the past. It is actually a strength of this series, which is nicely produced and accompanied by unsettling dream-world/extra-terrestrial sound effects, that it brings home how conformist, conservative and uncreative we have become."
