"He does the work, too, conducting the interviews himself and examining his own reasons for making the show. Johnson’s hosting style is like his commentary, so don’t expect fireworks, but instead an honest, discursive, invested companion to some fascinating stories. Defiance dismisses the establishment idea that athletes should “shut up and play the game”. I enjoyed Johnson’s own progression through the series. It’s riveting.
